Sterling Evans: treasure-hunter, man-of-action, grifter and secret romantic. I think.
What I'm sure he is is fun. I've been in wildly unsafe surroundings or surrounded by enemies with far too many people in my life, and I don't think I've ever met anyone as good as Sterling at making a girl crack a smile as the roof is caving in.

Dear journal, I don't think I've ever known a man who made my life as complicated as quickly as Sterling Evans. Secret patrons and strange clues and little double-crosses that always seem to turn out okay, these are the things that Sterling Evans brings.
And it's not his fault, exactly. I know that. I think I know that. I'm pretty sure. I'm in so far over my head. But that's the thing about Sterling. Most of the time, he makes being in over your head seem so much more interesting than the alternatives – as long as we're both underwater together.

- Sterling and Nigel have known each other for a while (their families are friends) and have a prank war going on between them.
- Nigel used to babysit Sterling, but they were close enough in age that they became almost like brothers.[2]
- Sterling sometimes calls Nigel 'Nidge'.
- In his New Orleans caper, Sterling says on the phone that it is currently his birthday (which irritates Sadie), making his birthday somewhere between mid-February and mid-March.
- On July 22, in Egypt, Sterling says that it is his birthday, but this is not true. His little brother's birthday may be somewhere around that date as the creators implied that Sterling may have been feeling like celebrating his brother's birthday at the time.[3]
