Trivia

• The "Rensselaer-Harper building" Sadie is in when she calls the police is apparently fictional, but appears inspired by historical New York;
  • The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute was already over a century old in Sadie's time.
    • Its founder, Stephen Van Rensselaer III, was the last patroon of a manor which his family had received from the Dutch West India Company in 1630, and maintained through the changing both of New Amsterdam to New York and the American Revolution.
  • Mariana Alley Griswold, who married into the still-influential Van Rensselaer family, was among the first female art critics, an extensive writer on several subjects (including a history of New York City), and had her first published poem in Harper's Magazine (yet another respected New York institution) in 1876.
• The newspaper article ends with a joke about "Mayor Walker's popularity" - this would be former State Assemblyman and State Senator James John "Jimmy" Walker, who won his second mayoral election in 1929 and whose resignation in scandal on September 1, 1932 may or may not be featured in the third installment of the Scheherazade Keating saga.
